Bill Dunn grew up in Fountain City and has lived there most of his life.
He worked his way through college at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and graduated with honors in 1985 with a Masters degree in Extension Education. He worked for the Agricultural Extension service as a 4-H agent in Grainger County for 8 years where he received several awards for his work in youth development.
In 1993, Bill moved his family back to Knoxville where he started work at Cortese Tree Specialists. While there, Bill worked in management as well as with the work crews. Bill volunteers his tree expertise to remove
dangerous limbs at the proposed Fountain City Skate Park.
In 1994, Bill decided to run for State Representative for the 16th House District. During his campaign he attracted many supporters because of his strong conservative views. He stated several times in the race that he was running for State Representative because he was concerned about the future of Tennessee and the future of his children if taxes kept going up and morals kept going down. Since his election to the seat in ’94, Bill has stayed true to his principles and has worked hard to represent the values of the voters who sent him to the Legislature.
During his time in the State Legislature, Bill has focused on effective and efficient government. He has stood firm against a state income tax and has taken a strong stand on the moral issues of our day. He authored and was the prime sponsor of Tennessee’s marriage amendment and also co-sponsor of the proposed pro-life amendment to the Constitution, Senate Joint Resolution 127.
He was elected by his peers to serve as Republican Leader in 2005. While in this leadership position, Bill worked to pass a major ethics bill that banned the practice of wining and dining of legislators by lobbyists, and he also passed a bill that offered more protection of property owners from eminent domain.
Currently, Representative Dunn serves on the Agriculture and Finance Committees.
He and his wife, Stacy, have five children and are members of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He is employed by QualPro.
